Many of you may not know but my full time job is a kitchen designer, and has been for a long time now. I have seen trends come and go and love hearing peoples opinions and pre conceptions on certain styles giving them the confidence to try something they have always wanted to. Statement black kitchens seem to be one that splits options very heavily but I personally am fully here for it and I don't think they're going anywhere anytime soon.

Black kitchens can create such a beautiful atmosphere and can say so much about the homeowners. Black interiors no longer line up with the pre conception of small dingy spaces, in fact they can be warm, sophisticated, inviting spaces suitable for many homes.

Depending on the finishes and complimentary materials used defines the aesthetic finish of the room. I have sourced a few images to inspire you and show you how varied the black kitchen trend can be, from soft and feminine to moody, sleek and modern.

Top tips to know when designing a black kitchen

- Compliment the dark shades with lighter woods, such as ash, to get that modern scandi finish

- Use oak touches for a more traditional aesthetic

- Pairing with high gloss white worktops or tiles will help create a modern sleek style

- Soften the dark units with soft pinks or neutral tones to add a feminine touch

- Brass finishes will add elegance and add a timeless effect

- Alternatively handleless fronts bring modernisation and an uncluttered design

- Keep the space light with open shelving or glass wall units

- If natural light is lacking, add worktop lighting where possible to keep the kitchen feeling light

- Add texture and interest with splash backs, tiles or woods

- Be sensitive to the light and shade elements within the kitchen
